This page is a brilliant idea under development
This map enables visitors to visually see the day to day movements of the 15th battalion a day (one map marker) at a time. The start date is 15 Feb 1915 – the day the battalion landed in France. The map markers show the location of the battalion on that date but some markers represent multiple dates if the battalion stayed in the same place. Click on the map marker to see:
- Â The name of the location and the date or dates the battalion remained there.Â
- A brief description of what the battalion was doing.Â
- Images including then and now photos, maps of the location including trench maps and the war diary entries for that day or each day in the date range.
When the next button is clicked, the system will look for the next chronological date in the database and then display the location of the battalion on that date. (The database does not contain an entry For every single date.) This will continue a day at a time until the end of the data in the database.
You can also enter a different start date if you want to start tracking the battalion at a later date.
