In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; .......Major John McCrae (From "In Flanders Fields")
As part of the Memorial Project’s continued focus on commemoration, a simple card was designed that is placed in front of the headstones in CWGC cemeteries where The Fallen of the 15th Battalion are buried. The “Cemeteries” page on the Museum web site has a wealth of detail on all of the cemeteries where our fallen lie. Here you can find cemeteries near your current location together with driving directions and the distance to each cemetery.
The cards have a standard format that includes images of the 15th Battalion cap badge and formation patch and the Memorial project logo. Cards for every man with a known grave, and for who we have a photograph in Project archives, are prepared in advance and for every opportunity when Project Team members are in an area.
The cards have a simple format; the man’s name is at the top beneath which a photograph of him (often accompanied with an image of a period newspaper obituary) followed by graphic images of the 15th Battalion’s cap badge and formation patch and the Memorial Project logo. The newer version of these cards includes the address of this web site which allows visitors, especially potential relatives, to visit the site for more information and possibly contact us information they are either seeking or information they would like to provide.
“I noticed the memorial cards you put on the graves of ‘your guys’. Very impressive.”
