My dear Dr. Reed:—

I wish to thank you very sincerely for your kindness in sending me copies of the Queen’s Memorial sermon.

If the plans of a memorial library-hall or chapel such, as you mentioned, materialize, please don’t let them make the same error in…

Stan’s name as appeared on the list of those who paid the price:

He is Stanley Donald Akens, not Stanley Douglas.

I’m proud to say his full name and title was: Captain Stanley Donald Skene, M.C.

It is something to know he made good over there as he did in all else he undertook.

We, Elaine and I, returned to Calgary last April.

I felt I could not stay in Nova Scotia after my reason for waiting there was taken away.

Also, while we never allowed ourselves to face the possibility, I felt sure Stan would wish his little daughter to grow up in the atmosphere of the West if he could not be with her.

Next September, I begin teaching Expression, Dramatic Art, and Physical Culture in Mt. Royal College, which is just a short block from here.

Miss Cross is with me, and I have a cozy house here.

Nothing — not even little daughter — seems worth living and striving for now…

I am really trying to be as brave as Stan would want me to be and face life with the same degree of serene courage as he faced death.

But oh, he had the easier part!

Please give my very kindest regards to your wife, and I would indeed deeply appreciate it if you will keep me in touch with what is being done at Queens.

Yours very sincerely,

Edna W. Skene
