The Photo Gallery Manager plugin supports the site’s managed FooGallery upload workflows and provides structural checks for gallery configuration. This article is intended for the webmaster rather than ordinary content editors.
Purpose
The plugin ties together Gravity Forms, the Media Library, FooGallery and FooGallery Media Categories so that gallery images are uploaded consistently and appear in the intended gallery without manual repair.
Managed upload forms
The plugin manages two Gravity Forms:
- Form 3 – Photographic History
- Form 4 – Other Galleries
For each form, the plugin reads the uploaded file, title, caption, source/provenance and selected FooGallery gallery.
Required gallery structure
Each published managed FooGallery gallery must:
- use Media Categories as its FooGallery data source;
- use the FooGallery Media Category taxonomy; and
- be mapped to exactly one valid Media Category.
If these conditions are not met, the managed upload is stopped and the user is told to contact the webmaster.
Upload processing
When a valid form is submitted, the plugin:
- locates the uploaded file on the server;
- checks for a Media Library item with the same filename;
- checks for an existing Media Library item with the same title;
- creates the attachment and image metadata;
- assigns the gallery’s FooGallery Media Category;
- refreshes the FooGallery gallery and clears relevant cache; and
- verifies that the Media Category relationship was successfully created.
If category assignment or verification fails, the incomplete attachment is removed so that an orphaned Media Library item is not left behind.
Gallery Health
The WordPress dashboard contains a top-level Photo Gallery Manager menu. Its Gallery Health page checks every published FooGallery gallery. Healthy galleries are not listed individually. If all published galleries are correctly configured, the page displays All clear.
If there is a problem, only the affected galleries are shown, together with the structural problem that requires attention.
Attachment taxonomies
The site uses FooGallery Media Categories as the authoritative gallery taxonomy. The ordinary attachment Category and Tag admin menus are hidden to reduce confusion. They have not been removed from WordPress and should not be treated as a replacement for FooGallery Media Categories.
Legacy processor check
The plugin checks whether the earlier ASE gallery-upload processor is still active. If it is detected, the plugin warns the administrator and does not process Forms 3 or 4, preventing duplicate Media Library attachments during migration.
FooGallery Media Category Lister
FooGallery Media Category Lister is a separate custom plugin (author: BTI / Bill). It adds an administrative Media screen for reviewing attachments in a selected FooGallery Media Category. The list includes thumbnail, title, caption, filename, Edit and Download links, pagination and CSV export.
The lister does not control the public galleries and is not required for the managed upload workflow. It is an administrative convenience for auditing and working with category-based galleries. It is useful enough to retain while that workflow is being used, but it can be removed without affecting public gallery display if a future webmaster decides the listing/export function is no longer needed.
Dependencies
The managed upload workflows depend on Gravity Forms and FooGallery. The Photo Gallery Manager should therefore be treated as part of the operational gallery system rather than as an isolated utility.
